Top 10 Best Analog Delay Pedals On The Market (July 2020)

Updated - June 29, 2020

The best analog delay pedals on the market provide an excellent support tool for guitarists. Since the early 1970’s the best analog delay pedals have been hugely popular with amateur and professional guitar players alike.

Why Choose One Of The Best Analog Delay Pedals On The Market?

The best analog delay pedals were part of a standard setup for legendary artists such as Elvis. Analog delay pedals are very popular because of the simplicity of the analog delay pedal interface when compared to digital delays. They have relatively few controls onboard and therefore aren’t as overwhelming for the user.

Analog pedals can have several modes and features hidden within the pedal. These are known as internal trim pots. Which in essence are configurable knobs that are hidden within the pedal. You’re able to manipulate them but not as easily as the ones located on the top of the delay pedals chassis.

An owner of an analog delay pedal best set these internal configurations prior to using the pedal in front of an audience. Otherwise they’re going to get a sight of you opening up your pedal to make some minor adjustments.

Is Analog The Right Choice?

Whether you decide to go with a digital delay or an analog delay pedal will be down to a matter of taste, choice and necessity. An analog delay pedal can produce a sound that often distinguishes itself from others based on the components & circuitry involved. If this sounds like the sort of pedal you’re looking for, one that has a ‘personality’. Then leave the digital delay pedals alone and get yourself an analog delay pedal.

Finding an analog delay pedal that has ‘that perfect sound’ is the dream. Sometimes it’ll take a few combinations. Moving the pedal around on your board, change the configurations or get a whole new pedal altogether.

Logically speaking, if you’re looking for a ‘sure thing’ then an analog pedal, even the best analog pedals on the market can’t compete with the digital delay pedals. Analog delay pedals have an element of nostalgia and the impulse to be different. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Having a unique pedalboard collection, a unique sound or a special collection of pedals is the dream of most guitarists.

Take a look at the list of the best analog delay pedals we’ve collected together for you. Hopefully you’ll find the pedal for you.

Dunlop EP103 Echoplex Delay Pedal

Dunlop EP103 Echoplex Delay Pedal

  • ✔ Vintage Tape Echo Warmth & Modulation
  • ✔ Age Mode Varies Delay Tone
  • ✔ 40 To 750Ms Of Delay Time
  • ✔ True Bypass Switching
The Dunlop EP103 Echoplex Delay guitar effects pedal offers guitarists that vintage sound without breaking the bank on vintage machines.
  • Vintage Echoplex EP-3 tape echo warmth and modulation
  • Hi-fi analog and digital audio paths
  • Dry path is 100% analog
  • Age control varies delay tone from pristine to dark and dirty
  • Delay control provides 65-750ms of delay time
  • Tap tempo jack provides up to 4 seconds of delay time with external Tap Tempo Switch
  • Studio-grade low noise floor
  • Relay true bypass and delay trails modes
  • Stereo In/Out capability when using TRS cables

The Echoplex EP-3 tape echo unit is famous for its deliciously warm, organic modulation and sweet musical voice—a key component to some of the most iconic guitar tones from the ’70s onward. The original EP-3 units, however, are expensive, temperamental, and larger than a VCR. That’s where the EP103 Echoplex Delay comes in. It’s the size of a Phase 90, and it delivers the EP-3’s legendary tones with a simple control interface and a hi-fi all-analog dry path.

The Delay control sets the time between repeats—from 40 to 750ms—the Sustain control sets the number of repeats, and the Volume control sets the output level of your repeats. Where the sound of this pedal really shines, though, is in Age mode. By default, your pedal performs as a perfectly-calibrated, factory-fresh tape echo machine would— bright and clear tape with subtle wow and flutter modulation. A quick push of the Volume knob lets you “age” the sound of your repeats, darkening the tone, upping the tape saturation (distortion), and increasing modulation and tape distress as you turn the knob clockwise. The ‘age’ ode accurately models the vicissitudes of tape transports and tape saturation, randomly changing pitch and affecting feedback and equalization as well.

The EP103’s delay signal gets the same tonal conditioning that the EP101 Echoplex Preamp provides, while the dry path is left untouched. For the full EP-3 experience, put that secret sauce on your dry signal by running the EP101 in front of the EP103. The Echoplex Delay also features tap tempo functionality, for up to 4 seconds of delay time, when you hook up an M199 MXR Tap Tempo Switch.

The dry path is all analog with Constant Headroom Technology™—providing a full 20 volts of headroom—and a choice of true relay or trails bypass. The EP103 can be set for 100% wet mode along with stereo input and output modes. No tape cartridges required!

The drop-dead gorgeous effects of the original Echoplex tape echo live on again in the wonderfully versatile EP103 pedal, but without the maintenance, cleaning, and other headaches associated with a vintage tape echo unit. Overall, with a high-quality analog dry signal path, stereo compatibility, and more. We can happily recommend the Dunlop EP103 Echoplex Delay pedal to any and all guitarists.

  • Dimensions: 75mm (D)*36mm (W)*40mm (H)
  • Weight: 210g (with box)

The Wave pedal from Donner boasts a clear tone which can be perfectly applied to various types of music. For an analog delay, 20ms to 620ms delay time is enough to fulfill the standard needs. Wave is a mini pedal that carries Time, F.Back, and Level knobs which you can use to set the delay time, repeated notes, and delay volume respectively. It also includes a toggle switch that allows you to select between Normal and Mod models.

The Wave is a nice analog delay pedal at a very, very low price, and is good for a really natural analog sound. The clear tone of the Wave deplay pedal can be well applied to all kinds of music, and the tone can compete with same expensive similar products.

Perfect for some rockabilly revival, it gives a great quality sound that really gives competitors a run for the money. The feedback settings enable real creativity, with their entertaining crazy oscillations. It’s teeny size could be a burden or a blessing depending on your setup, but it definitely packs a punch for its miniature stature.

So what’s our opinion. The Wave is a fantastic little pedal at a very low price. You can get some cool oscillating delay out of it, and it looks like it could be a boutique unit ten times the price.

JOYO JF-33 Analog Delay Pedal

JOYO JF-33 Analog Delay Pedal

  • ✔ True Bypass Switching
  • ✔ Pure Analog Circuit
  • ✔ Strong Aluminum Alloy Chassis
  • ✔ Features Time, Mix & Repeat Control Knobs

  • Sturdy Aluminum Case
  • Weighs 0.62 lb

The Joyo JF-33 Analog Delay pedal is an easy-to-use true bypass delay at an affordable price. The JF-33’s warm, subtle repeats call upon the classic early echo units used in recording studios and by touring guitarists. Get that vintage slapback sound in a hurry by keeping the timing control down and mix in the repeats to taste

JOYO Analog delay pedal offers the recognizable sound of the slap-back pedals. The new technology took the psychedelic rock scene by storm and transformed the possibilities of rhythm, play 1 note, hear 2, 3, 4 or more follow-up repeats. The JF-33 is about as simple as they come for Delay pedals, but don’t think of this as a disadvantage.

All you need to know is that the pedal is to be thought of as a piece of quantized gear and that since the controls are analog, you need to have some idea of how to recreate a sound once you’ve found it.

This second setting, Mix at or under half, Time at max fastest bounce back and the Repeat all the way up or close, it a very useful and common setting to use for lead guitar, as when the ping sound is returned at anything less than 50 ms, you are barely if at all, able to hear a distinct note. There are so many tones possible, but two major categories: Slap-back single echo and dotted eighth or sixteenth note usually repeats. The Analog Delay from JOYO Audio an affordable device that inspires creativity and doesn’t take too long to master, even provided that this is a new effect for you to experiment with.

With the Waza Craft DM-2W, the coveted stomp has been reborn with switchable sound modes and greater versatility for today’s music styles. Using 100-percent analog circuitry, the DM-2W’s Standard mode nails the lush sound and 20-300 ms delay range of the original DM-2. Flipping into Custom mode instantly changes the sound character to a cleaner analog tone with over twice the available delay time.

The DM-2W has a very rich, full sound, thanks to its all-analog circuit that uses a “bucket-brigade device” (BBD) to create the delay effect. Capable of a wide range of tones from doubling to quick slapback to long repeating echoes, the character of the BBD effect is distinctly different from digital delay, which tends to be very crisp and defined.

The original DM-2 pedal design was straightforward and simple, offering delay times in the range of 20 to 300 milliseconds, plus that classic BBD tone. And when the DM-2W’s mode switch is on the “S” (Standard) setting, that’s exactly what you get—the real DM-2 analog delay sound.

The ability to connect an expression pedal and adjust the delay time with your foot is another new feature with the DM-2W compared to the original. The DM-2W pedal is pure analog through and through. If you love old-school tone and methods, the DM-2W is made for you! Check it out today!
