Best Fuzz Pedals

Best Fuzz Pedals On The Market (November 2020)

Updated - November 18, 2020

Fuzz pedals are a great effect to add to your collection. They can have very distinctive sounds. More intense than other gain based effects.

Famous Players

The fuzz effect is very popular with electric guitar players. This is due to the immensely aggressive, attention grabbing tone manipulation. A wide range of different fuzz effects exist. From the famous fuzz effects created by Jimi Hendrix through to the signature fuzz noises of Keith Richards.

High Gain Pedal

Fuzz pedals can give your tone a dirty feel. More so than many other ‘gain’ pedals. The fuzz characteristics created depends on their controls and components used in the particular pedal. Many fuzz pedals will use germanium made transistors while others will use silicon transistors. Selected germanium components provide a sound considered to be more ‘classic’ in nature. While silicon transistors can last longer as well as provide a more consistent sound to you and your guitar.

If you’re after for an effect that will manipulate and change your signal completely. Giving you a heavily distorted tone, then fuzz pedals are something you definitely should look into. Just remember though, fuzz pedals are unpredictable. The waves created by fuzz pedals if not managed, can result in uncontrollable noise. Fuzz pedals can be a lot of fun though. Once you learn how to tame the beast you’ll see other gain pedals as minuscule in comparison.

Conclusion

In summation, fuzz pedals saturate your tone heavily. Resulting in a fuzz like coating. It’s a difficult effect to describe however it’s a massively popular pedal type so you should give it a go. Fuzz effects add huge amounts of gain to your tone. Fuzz is particularly popular with those guitarists that play alternative rock, punk and metal music. So if that’s you’re area then what are you waiting for. Take a look at our recommendations below. Choose your price range and get yourself a gain generating monster.

The Biyang FZ10 Fuzz Star is an incredibly good sounding fuzz pedal. It’s heavily influenced by the classic fuzz pedals, but brings a little something extra to the table too. It also all has a true bypass foot switch so you tone isn’t impacted.

The Normal mode gives you that Muff type of tone, saturated and overdriven with lots of sustain. In the Bright mode you get a slightly brighter and clearer tone. Good for Rhythm work. In the Warm mode, you get a sound with less treble. Still smooth yet not quite as gritty.

We think it’s a winner and that it’ll sound sweet when it’s combined with an Overdrive or Reverb pedal. Check it out today!

  • Features both fuzz and octave guitar effects in one shell
  • True bypass wiring, quality internal components, 1/4-inch jacks and connectors
  • Achieve the mind-altering sounds famous of analog-based octave shift pedals

The fuzz on the ultimate octave is a brilliantly thick snarling beast. At the lowest possible settings you can coax a more ‘vintage’ fuzz sound from this pedal but it really starts to shine when you crank the fuzz up and ‘Plug In Baby’. With buckets of sustain your lead lines will sound massive and you’ll be able to hold those notes all night. Add the brilliant Octave Up effect to the Fuzz and you’re in ‘White Stripes’ territory. The Octave Up adds a whole new dimension to your riffs making them really pop and stand out.

The other features of this pedal aid and abet when it comes to reserving a permanent place in the pedal chain. The mid cut allows you to scoop out some of the body, which works nicely when thrashing out some crunchy power chords, as does the tone knob, which will be the reins on your dark, nay, bright horse – the highest notes with the octave pedal on – that sounds like tin cans falling from the sky and breaking into glass figurines on marble flooring.

Best part is there’s no clean up. The JF-12 allows rock, blues, jazz, funk, fusion and even country guitar players to access creative sounds from an affordable, spicy pedal.

The Animal Pedals bears are Fuzzy things so it’s no surprise they have been working on something very fuzzy sounding down in the bear cave. Having a deep love of the Big Muff Pi pedal, they set their sights on creating a fuzz that captured the essence of the “Civil War” nicknamed, early 1990’s Big Muff era, but with more control over tone and tightness of the sound. Upon finishing their latest creation they all agreed that they all loved this fuzz as much as they’re love of fishing, which as we all know is a bears favourite pastime!

All Animals pedals feature artwork by Jonas Claesson, operate on 9v power, feature true-bypass switching, and are made to exacting standards of performance and durability using only the highest quality parts and materials. As fuzzy as a family of holidaying bears on a fishing trip. And this fuzz is no copycat clone, it’s a sleuth of bears who make their own unique happy fun.

There’s not much to be said about the three-band control layout, consisting of an output, tone and fuzz intensity. Whatever you dial in here, you’re guaranteed unmistakeable vintage-tinged tone. Dial in the Output, Tone, and Fuzz controls to set the mood, and then let the heaviness flow forth as the world around you melts into a fuzzy, synesthetic convergence of colors and sounds.

Load up on the intensity control for thick, gripping fuzz or back off slightly and up the tone for snarling transparency and fast attack. Whether you want to ride droning power chord currents across the universe or summon burly grooves at an ancient altar, this pedal has all you need for your musical invocations.

Remember this is a limited edition offering, meaning there are only limited amounts in production. The MXR Brown Acid Fuzz comes adorned with the arcane renderings of legendary Bay Area artist Alan Forbes. • Fuzz and octaver
  • Hardwire true bypass
  • Knobs for volume, tone, fuzz, octave sub, octave up
  • Switch for on and up

Two legendary and timeless icons of rock music—Slash and MXR—have teamed up to deliver the Slash Octave Fuzz. It features a searing Fuzz tone coupled with a separate Sub Octave voice and an Octave Up Fuzz, all for thickening up your tone with a sinister growl. With an array of external and internal controls, there are numerous ways to combine the main Fuzz effect’s thick ’70s shag and the chainsaw grind of the Octave Up Fuzz with the warm growl of the Sub Octave. Internal Gain and Tone pots shape the Octave Up Fuzz effect. Featuring custom Slash artwork and a distressed hot-rod paintjob, the Slash Octave Fuzz features all analog circuitry, true hardwire bypass and comes in a heavy duty housing with durable jacks and switches.

The SF01 Slash Octave Fuzz guitar effects pedal has highly customizable tones. If you’re a tone tweaker this will keep you busy from muddy thick to barely touched. We love the adjustability of the octave presence as well from ‘in your face’ noticeable to very subtle. A good wide ranging pedal, if it’s good enough for Slash (who used this on his second solo album) then surely it’s worth your consideration.

  • Current Draw: 9 mA
  • Input Impedance: 500 kΩ
  • Output Impedance: <1 kΩ

Can we ask you a serious question? When’s the last time you turned up your favorite fuzz pedal to anything but eleven? If there’s one true thing about rock n’ roll, it’s that it sounds best cranked all the way up. But where do we go from here? We go one louder. Enter the Erupter.

The Erupter is the result of over two years’ worth of tone-chasing, tweaking, and experimentation in search of the ultimate classic fuzz tone with a big low end, a biting top end without being too harsh, and just enough output to politely send a tube amp over the top to deliver a well-rounded and defined fuzz tone with just enough pummeling intensity, so you can rock n’ roll all night and still get to bed at a reasonable hour.

This control has a center detent for the “perfect” fuzz setting. When in the center position, the tone will be big and round with a slight volume boost and great sustain. As you turn this counterclockwise it becomes more gated with lower output. As you turn this clockwise it becomes louder and more refined.

We love the drawing on this pedal. It looks great and is a real conversation starter. It sounds epic with rounded, clearly defined fuzz tones. Get ready for its volume boost because it is very loud. If you want an easy to use fuzz pedal with great tones at any setting, this is the pedal for you. We think you should give it a shot.

  • Switchable 9 and 24 volt power rails give a saggy or tight sound
  • True bypass
  • Blue LED
  • Classic octave up + fuzztone effect pedal
  • Runs on 9V battery or standard EHX9.6DC power supply
  • Dimensions in inches: 2.75 (w) x 4.5 (l) x 2.1 (h)
  • Dimensions in mm: 70 (w) x 115 (l) x 54 (h)

Octavix delivers the definitive late 1960’s fuzzed out, octave up sound together with modern enhancements that update the classic concept.

Housed in EHX’s rugged nano package, the Octavix features Volume, Boost and Octave knobs. Volume regulates the output level of the pedal. Boost controls the amount of fuzz and Octave adjusts the volume of the octave above. A mini-toggle lets the player select between 9 or 24 volt power rails and determines the power supply voltage for the entire circuit. At 9V the pedals behaves like the classic, saggy fuzz box. At 24V the Octavix delivers a tighter sound and a richer octave tone. True bypass ensures maximum signal path integrity.

A period-evocative, psychedelic design and blue LED contribute to the pedal’s vintage vibe. Octavix runs on a 9 volt battery or accepts a standard EHX9.6DC power supply.

The Octavix is a must-have tool when creating solos or riffs. May not be the pedal to use on every song but when you’re looking for that kick, on the songs that matter, this is the pedal you need. The Octavix sounds good using a booster and has been reported as a great match for a wah pedal if you’re looking to replicate that Hendrix sound. An easy addition to our recommended octave and fuzz pedals.

  • Power supply via 9 V battery or 9 V power supply
  • Power consumption: 17 mA
  • Dimensions (L x W x H): 111 x 64 x 49 mm
  • Weight: 220 g

The Super Badass Variac Fuzz is a dream come true for guitar players chasing vintage fuzz tone. This tasty fuzz is aggressive and biting, and with the twist of a knob, you can drag it into that dying battery territory much prized by tonechasers-no need to manage a collection of half-dead batteries.

To create the Super Badass Variac Fuzz, the MXR design team dusted off a rare vintage silicon circuit, tuned it up, and added a Variac control so you can set the pedal’s voltage anywhere from 5 to 15V. For that wonderful saggy fuzz effect you get as a 9V battery loses its power, just lower the voltage by turning the Variac knob counterclockwise. Increasing the voltage raises the effect’s headroom, opening up the fuzz for a more transparent sound at 15V.

The Super Badass Variac Fuzz’s simple interface is rounded out with Tone, Output, and Gain controls, and it all comes in a road-ready housing with true bypass switching.

This is an interesting pedal, nothing quite like it in terms of the Variac feature. I’m sure many musicians out there would find a use for such a feature. Perhaps you’re one of them? Check it out today!

  • Mid knob provides extra clarity and cut

  • Two BC108C transistors, intentionally mismatched for harmonic content
  • Classic Fuzz tones
  • Built to last from top-notch and custom-built components
  • Proprietary PCB board mounting method
  • Aggressive tone

This is not a pedal for the faint of heart. Although there is warmth and clarity in the tone, its at its best when turned up way past the point of any sense. This is a pedal to let loose at full pelt. Shoot first, ask questions later. For fans of the softer, earlier Fuzz Face tone, the 69 mkII from Fulltone is definitely worth checking out. But for those of you who want to get a snarlier version of the classic tone, this is the pedal for you.

What Fulltone had to say about the 70-BC fuzz pedal.

“Ours has two intentionally mismatched (for harmonic content) silicon transistors that snarl and spit… not for the meek! If you put the “Fuzz” on 10 you will rip, and you might get all sorts of oscillation and weirdness… but that’s Rock. Don’t try using it with a wah wah… you can’t, and neither could Jimi, without it screaming and howling. You want polite and quiet? Go elsewhere. You want art in a box? Come on in.”

Designed by Mike Matthews in 1970, The legendary and distinctive Electro Harmonix Big Muff PI. The most popular (by far) Electro Harmonix pedal, it has that old school rock sound that has survived the ages.

Lifted from the EHX website, they aren’t wrong.

“The NYC original. Hendrix and Santana were among the first to get a piece of the Pi, and for over 40 years the Big Muff Pi has been defining the sound of rock guitar. Revered by contemporary guitarists and rock legends for its rich, creamy, violin-like sustain, from Pink Floyd to The White Stripes, everyone still wants a piece of the Pi!”

A classic pedal for sure. There are smaller versions available these days, in fact we’ve reviewed the nano version but if you want the real deal with all the bell, whistles and fuzz for days. Yo know what to do. Check it out!

The Hoof Reaper features our popular Hoof and Tone Reaper fuzz pedals in one handy enclosure with the added bonus of an old school analog octave up. Originally released as a special limited run item, demand was so high that we reintroduced it. Capable of creating everything from subtle octave-up overtones through crushing octave squalls that simulate exploding stacks of amps. Each effect can be used individually as well as in series but the order of effects is preset for optimum performance.

Hoof

Our flagship device! The Hoof is a no-fuss, easy-to-use device capable of sounds from warm, gritty overdrive to a huge, sustaining fuzz. It’s a germanium/silicon hybrid Muff-style fuzz (based on the old green Russian muff) with massive amounts of volume on tap and smooth amp-like sustain. It has a tighter, cleaner sound than most Muff’s which makes it more cutting and discernible in a band setting. The shift control is the key to the Hoof’s character, it alters the frequency response of the tone control. Clockwise scoops the mids and counterclockwise enhances the mids. The Hoof has become the go-to fuzz for many well-known fuzz connoisseurs.

Tone Reaper

The Tone Reaper is a vintage style fuzz device based on the “3 knob” bender. It’s a silicon/germanium hybrid capable of producing a wide range of tones from every bender era with careful tweaking of the Tone and Fuzz controls. From thin and spitty, to thick, growling sustain; it’s all here.

Octave

This is a classic monophonic octave up that will add a swelling octave to the fuzz tone! Since it is monophonic, the effect will be more pronounced when using the neck pickup and playing above the 12th fret.

Although this pedal is expensive, it’s a 3 in one hybrid. The HoofReaper is capable of creating lots of sounds from subtle octave up undertones through to crushing octave squalls. If you missed the limited edition pedal in 2010 then take the chance this time around to get hold of the HoofReaper 3 in 1 guitar effects fuzz & octave pedal today.

The Velvet Fuzz was designed to to make it possible for a player to get great, cleassic fuzz tones into a clean amp. Many fuzzes excel when run into an already cooking amp, but they can fall short when running into a clean platform. Not to mention that some can be very temperamental depending on temperature changes and what signal it’s receiving.

Our favorite part of the Velvet is the Big/Tight setting, and the adaptability it provides. It really makes it so you can take only the Velvet and have it fulfill any fuzz needs you’d run into in most situations. The Big position will give a great old school saggy fuzz tones that are fat and wooly, where the Tight setting will give smoother, singing fuzz that borders on distortion that works great for covering Johnson, Gilmour, and even Bonamassa. It also cleans up exceptionally well with the guitars volume knob as well.

Volume

Though it’s pretty self-explanatory, this knob controls the volume of the output of the pedal. And this fuzz unit is no slouch, it gets Loud. Loads of level on tap to add a slight bit of fuzz and boost to an already cooking amp. The level has to be compensated depending on where the Fuzz knob is set. When the fuzz is low, the level knob will have to be run a little higher to achieve unity. With the fuzz set low, the level can be backed off of to match unit output. This works well with a dirty amp, but it really excels into a clean format as as well.

Fuzz

This knob dictates how much fuzz and clipping starts happening on your signal, and I can promise you there’s plenty of it. It can go from just a hint of fuzzy grit, all the way to full-bore cranked aggressive clipping (almost sputtery on the Big setting). Fully counterclockwise, it will give you a touch of fuzz, but allows the original tone of your guitar to shine through. The big thing to remember is that the level must be set really high to achieve unity when the fuzz is all the way down. It works great for having a boost and rolling the guitar volume knob back for rhythm, then turning the guitars volume back up to add that fuzzy sustain.

Big/Tight Switch

This switch is what dictates the flavor of fuzz is being produced. On the Big setting, it’s much darker and saturated, indicative of those classic fuzz tones from the 60s and 70s going into a hot amp. It can go very over the top and crazy wooly at the top of the gain range. On the Tight setting, it’s not as wooly and retains a clarity and note definition, even with the fuzz all of the way up. The Tight setting is often thought of as distortion-ish, and that’s definitely right. It takes the parts of fuzz that people love and refines them to retain note definition and smooth out the whole tone of the fuzz.

Brightness

This knob controls the overall high-end content that’s happening on the fuzz signal. Fully counter-clockwise is much more subdued and woollier (less high-end content coming through). It can get quite bassy. Clockwise will introduce more highs in and add some cut and depth into the signal. I will say that this circuit is very dark, so rarely do I run the Brightness less than Noon unless I’m playing on an inherently bright amp.

The fat sound adds incredible power to the tone of your guitar without narrowing the frequency range. In other words, you get a thick great powerful tone that sings/screams. The Fuzz control is useable throughout the whole sweep. In addition to sounding fantastic, the Velvet Fuzz looks good too. It is subtle and graceful. An easy to recommend pedal.

  • ✔ Based On An Old Classic Circuit
  • ✔ Durable Metal Chassis
  • ✔ Beautiful Pedal Design

  • Since Octapussy is expressly designed to be interactive with your guitar’s controls, it should best be placed as early in the signal chain as possible, preferably right after your guitar and definitely not after any buffered pedal.
  • Fuzz pedals are great stacked after the Octapussy. The Octapussy will match up great with the fuzz and cut right through it.
  • Amp-style overdrives should definitely be placed after the Octapussy. The Octapussy into the DLS MkII is an amazing combination.
  • Octapussy can run on 9volts DC all the way up to 18volts DC.
  • Play sweet, breathy, delicate octave-up melodies up high on the neck.
  • Play epic soaring leads that are full sounding with upper harmonics that bloom and bloom as you hold that bend.
  • Get tough sounding almost ring modulated double-stops that growl when you sustain it.
  • Obtain sounds that evoke Caribbean steel drums.
  • Riff out with a textured, harmonically rich fuzz tone that can achieve cello/sax-like qualities.
  • Achieve mysterious sounding droning melodies.

The Octapussy is essentially, an octave-up fuzz in the tradition of the Octavia. But it’s not a clone of that circuit! Nope, it’s an original circuit utilizing 3 silicon transistors and two diodes that takes the tradition to the next level! The preamp section is custom voiced to give you an extremely dynamic playing response. You’ll get those famous high-octave lead tones up high on the guitar neck but you’ll also get an amazing array of fuzz tones anywhere else on the neck – just by how you play it and how your guitar’s volume, tone, and pickup selector is set.

The more you play the Octapussy, the more sounds you’ll find in it!

  • Gain – This control increases the gain for more fuzz, harmonics, and upper-midrange frequency boost. it is voiced to be usable throughout its range from minimum all the way to maximum.
  • Attenuate – This control should normally be set full counter-clockwise. For best tone and response, only attenuate where you’ve got the Gain and Body knobs really cranking and need to reduce the output some.
  • Body – This control increases the bass response or ‘thump’ frequencies. like the Gain knob, it also increases output and harmonic content. Technically, it is a negative-feedback loop with variable frequency response. But let’s not dwell on technicals. ..this is another more knob!

The Catalinbread Octapussy modern octave fuzz pedal is one of the most dynamic, responsive octave up fuzz we’ve seen. It has great note bloom and sustain. The Octapussy doesn’t choke your notes off like some budget octave fuzz pedals. Depending upon where the knobs are set on both the pedal as well as the volume knob and pickup selection on your guitar this one does everything you want. From octavia styled leads to think power chord riffs. We can’t recommend this octave fuzz pedal enough!

Catalinbread Perseus Sub-Octave Fuzz Pedal

Catalinbread Perseus Sub-Octave Fuzz Pedal

  • ✔ Toggle Switch - Choose Between 1 Or 2 Octaves Down
  • ✔ Features Volume, Cut & Blend Control Knobs
  • ✔ Tracks Anywhere On The Neck
  • ✔ True Bypass Switching
The Catalinbread Perseus sub-octave fuzz guitar effects pedal is so massive and thundering, you’ll regret turning it off. Called Perseus due to the lowest note in the universe coming from the Perseus cluster.

Catalinbread believe the Perseus is the coolest analog octave-down fuzz out there! The Perseus is an octave-down fuzz that allows you to select either one or two octaves down mixed with a fuzz sound that you can blend to any mix of the two you want, including just the fuzz or just the sub-octave. The Perseus can track the sub-octave note accurately no matter where on the neck you are playing!

The Perseus features three knobs and an octave switch. While the controls on the Perseus may seem simple, it’s important to know that your guitar’s tone, volume and pickup selection makes a big difference in the Perseus’ behavior.

  • Volume – You’ll notice that Perseus has plenty of outpute so you can pummel your amp to your heart’s desire. Unity volume is around 10:00.
  • Cut – It reduces the bass content of your signal. This allows you to use the Perseus into a cranked, overdriven amp without ‘flubbing’ out from too much bass as well as creating cool textures for lead playing.
  • Blend – This control allows you to mix the fuzz and octave sounds in any amount you want.
  • Octave Switch – This switch allows you to switch between one or two octaves down.

Some words from the lead designer of the Perseus pedal.

“I’ve always liked the idea of analog octave down pedals. But most of them don’t track well on the low strings and some of them don’t have enough output or any control over the output volume at all. Of course, with the new offerings in the digital realm, we now have pedals that will track perfectly and even polyphonically to boot! The digital pedals are way cool, but I was still hankering for somethiing funky, greasy, fuzzy. ..unpredictable, if I want it to be. So I got out the breadboard and started working.”

Oh, and why is this pedal called Perseus?

“The lowest note in the universe is coming from a black hole in the Perseus Cluster, about two hundred fifty million light yeras away. What’s happening out there is that intergalactic gas has concentrated around a cluster of galazies, forming a cloud. A massive black hole is sending out jets of particles that crash into the cloud, causing pressure waves to ripple outward. Some astronomers interpret these as sound waves. of course, even if you call it sound, it’s too low for anyone to hear. They estimate the note to be a ‘B flat’, about fifty-seven octaves lower than middle C.”

“Ok, no, the Perseus won’t give you 57 octaves below middle C, but it will give you a measly one or two octaves!”

-Howard Gee, Catalinbread

Overall, if you play lead, this is a great pedal with a very unique sound. It’s durable, well made, and with its own noise gate system inside, it’s as quiet as a mouse until you come to play something. For something other than your usual ‘octave up’ pedal, give the Perseus a try.

  • Whether you’re using the Karma Suture as your standalone dirt box into your amp or you’re using it to boost, overdrive, and enhance your existing dirt pedals, you’ll be greeted with harmonic distortion laden with even-order harmonics
  • Both models (Silicon and Germanium) provide you with amazing even-order harmonic distortion with distinct personalities.
  • SILICON provides a more immediate picking attack with a more aggressive tone.

The Karma Suture from Catalinbread is an interesting Harmonic Fuzz pedal that wants to deliver a crushing amount of fuzz but with a lot of added harmonic content that brings out the definition in each note you play. From calm to extreme this pedal has a wide range of different sounds under the hood that are easy to dial in.

“We try out a lot of different circuits at Catalinbread when looking for new ideas, always looking for that spark of something special. During one such prototyping session, one circuit really stood out. We’re talking about a rare and obscure circuit known as the Harmonic Percolator. “Wow! There’s something to be mined here!” This circuit has the amazing property of generating predominantly even-order harmonics – which creates an amazingly sweet and clear distortion. You may know of this circuit from its use by Steve Albini, who owns one particular unit that apparently has magical properties no other unit seems to have.

We could search for holy grails and chase rainbows, but we saw a potential beyond one person’s use of it. Oddly enough, the ‘Percolator has a reputation for creating an ugly sound, albeit a cool and ugly sound. But we found something beautiful in it. So beautiful that you could play complex jazz chords through it and every note rings sweet and clear. So, using the original circuit as the springboard, we created the Karma Suture.”

The Catalinbread Karma Suture line was inspired by the rare Harmonic Percolator. Not just a clone, we’ve expanded the potential by adding the exclusive Density and Diodes controls coupled with months of fine-tuning to get everything just right. You’ll find great sounds through the rotation of all the controls. No matter how you have the pedal set, the tone and response is always alive, sensitive to your every playing nuance.

Silicon Karma Suture ups the gain, output, and brightness with two silicon transistors, still in PNP/NPN configuration, along with a pair of silicon diodes, configured for asymmetrical clipping.

Whether you’re using the Karma Suture as your standalone dirt box into your amp or you’re using it to boost, overdrive, and enhance your existing dirt pedals, you’ll be greeted with harmonic distortion laden with even-order harmonics – sweet and musical, even with complex chord voicings. Both models provide you with amazing even-order harmonic distortion with distinct personalities. If you’re familiar with the difference between a germanium and silicon fuzz face, then those qualities apply to the Karma Suture as well – germanium gives you a thick, sweet response with a softer picking attack. Silicon provides a more immediate picking attack with a more aggressive tone.

So, you’re thinking, is it a fuzz? Yes! Is it an overdrive? Yes! Is it a sparkly boost? Yes, again! Karma Suture’s four control layout allows you to dial in a huge range of harmonically rich tones that sound great into clean amps and as well as overdriven amps. Or into a foundation overdrive, such as the Dirty Little Secret. It can work equally well with vintage single coils and hot humbuckers.

The Karma Suture will reward your good tone intentions by lacing up your sound with awesome harmonics that bloom and bloom, turning your power chord into a tantric event!

You’ll find that the Karma Suture will have the potential to enhance your pedalboard in a huge variety of ways. Use it as an amazing fuzz. Use it as a harmonically enhancing boost after an overdrive to really get that part to stand out in the mix. Use it as your only overdrive pedal. Use it to add new life to your wahs, phasers, and other effects. It can be subtle. Or it can be over the top. Whatever you need it to be, you better get your hands on one while you can!

The Electroharmonix Big muff is a classic overdrive pedal that has captured the hearts and minds of many a guitarist. EHX took the Big Muff Pi circuit and simply shrunk it without changing its rich, creamy, violin-like sustain and sound. The Nano Big Muff Pi works and sounds identical in every way to our classic NYC Big Muff Pi.

The Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi has to be one of the all-time iconic pedals, the nano has the same DNA and hits the mark. This perfectly captures the classic sound of the original Big Muff Pi. It has the convenient red indicator light, small size and clean sounding connections to make it even better. If you want that classic Floyd/Gilmour sound, this is the best way to get it on your pedalboard. Get a piece of the pi for yourself!

Five Oclock Fuzz gives you loads of rich, cascading sustain with crisp attack and subtle compression. Use the controls to go from waxy smooth, violin-like sustain to grittier tones with razor-sharp bite. Perfectly sculpt your fuzz tone into everything from the thick leads of 1970s classic rock to heavier alternative sounds of the 80s and 90s. Featuring True Bypass switching to maintain the purity of your clean tone, Five Oclock Fuzz delivers a wide array of fuzz tones in a compact package.

Even with the sustain knob rolled all the way back, you get a nasty (in a good way) fuzzy sound. It only gets better from there. The more you roll the sustain up, the more hair this pedal grows. Every step along the way there are settings that are useful and enjoyable. The effect gives a slight compression and heaps of sustain. Its squishy, but not too squishy. My favorite thing about any fuzz pedal is its ability to cover up many of my mistakes. Sloppy playing just adds more nasty (again, in a good way) noise. As long as your fingers find the right notes most of the time, you aren’t just noodling around, you will start channeling your inner Jimi.

This fuzz pedal is unbelievable for the price. It’s barely more expensive than the budget fuzz pedals we’ve featured elsewhere yet it sounds like it’s from a different planet. If you can stretch your budget then get the Outlaw Effects Five O’clock Fuzz. That’s an order partner (laugh at our cowboy joke).

What Is A Fuzz Pedal?

Technically speaking, the fuzz pedals design is quite simplistic and easy to construct. This is why many different pedal brands offer some type of fuzz pedal. As the fuzz pedal hasn’t evolved much since the mid 60’s. Differences between fuzz pedals are usually down to component choice, style and design.

What Does A Fuzz Pedal Do?

Fuzz pedals generally enhance your signals frequency. They thicken your sound by combining your tone with ample sustain. A fuzz pedal will take your signal and clip it. This is referred to as ‘square-wave’ clipping. This compresses the tone and results in a somewhat unrecognisable sound.
