Fuzz pedals under $150 can give your tone a dirty feel, more so than distortion or overdrive pedals. The sound and volume fuzz pedals create depend on their controls and components. Many fuzz pedals under $150 will use germanium transistors while others will use silicon transistors. What Is A Fuzz Pedal?

Technically speaking, the fuzz pedals under $150 design is quite simplistic and easy to construct. This is why many different pedal brands offer some type of fuzz pedal. Fuzz pedals under $150 are unpredictable, unlike distortion pedals , the waves created by these fuzz pedals can result in uncontrollable noise. Every pedal is different and there is an opportunity to test out these unknowns to find your unique tone and explore your creative side.

What Does A Fuzz Pedal Do?

Fuzz pedals generally enhance your signals frequency. They thicken your sound by combining your tone with ample sustain. A fuzz pedal under $150 will take your signal & clip it, this is know as ‘square-wave’ clipping. This compresses the tone and results in an almost unrecognisable sound.

The best fuzz pedals under $150 add more gain than other pedals to your tone. the fuzz effect is particularly popular with those guitarists that play alternative rock, punk and metal music. Genres that don’t require the right response achieved with a distortion pedal.

In essence, the best fuzz pedals under $150 saturate your tone heavily, resulting in a fuzz like coating. The EarthQuaker Devices Erupter Ultimate Fuzz Tone fuzz guitar effects pedal is the result of over two years’ worth of tweaking, and experimentation in search of the ultimate classic fuzz tone.

  • Current Draw: 9 mA
  • Input Impedance: 500 kΩ
  • Output Impedance: <1 kΩ

Can we ask you a serious question? When’s the last time you turned up your favorite fuzz pedal to anything but eleven? If there’s one true thing about rock n’ roll, it’s that it sounds best cranked all the way up. But where do we go from here? We go one louder. Enter the Erupter.

The Erupter is the result of over two years’ worth of tone-chasing, tweaking, and experimentation in search of the ultimate classic fuzz tone with a big low end, a biting top end without being too harsh, and just enough output to politely send a tube amp over the top to deliver a well-rounded and defined fuzz tone with just enough pummeling intensity, so you can rock n’ roll all night and still get to bed at a reasonable hour.

This control has a center detent for the “perfect” fuzz setting. When in the center position, the tone will be big and round with a slight volume boost and great sustain. As you turn this counterclockwise it becomes more gated with lower output. As you turn this clockwise it becomes louder and more refined.

We love the drawing on this pedal. It looks great and is a real conversation starter. It sounds epic with rounded, clearly defined fuzz tones. Get ready for its volume boost because it is very loud. If you want an easy to use fuzz pedal with great tones at any setting, this is the pedal for you. We think you should give it a shot.

MXR Super Badass Variac Fuzz Pedal

MXR Super Badass Variac Fuzz Pedal

  • ✔ Lower Voltage For 'Dying Battery' Effect
  • ✔ Increase Voltage For More Headroom & Clarity
  • ✔ Features True Bypass Switching
The MXR Super Badass Variac Fuzz guitar effects pedal is aggressive, biting, and highly versatile, featuring a Variac control to change the pedal's voltage from 5V to 15V for a range of fuzz tones.
  • Fuzz Pedal
  • Vintage Silicon Fuzz circuit
  • Controls for Tone, Variac, Output and Gain
  • Variac regulates the input voltage between 5 V-15 V for a “dying battery” effect
  • True bypass
  • Status LED
  • Metal housing
  • Bypass foot-switch
  • 6.3 mm Mono jack input/ output
  • Power supply via 9 V battery or 9 V power supply
  • Power consumption: 17 mA
  • Dimensions (L x W x H): 111 x 64 x 49 mm
  • Weight: 220 g

The Super Badass Variac Fuzz is a dream come true for guitar players chasing vintage fuzz tone. This tasty fuzz is aggressive and biting, and with the twist of a knob, you can drag it into that dying battery territory much prized by tonechasers-no need to manage a collection of half-dead batteries.

To create the Super Badass Variac Fuzz, the MXR design team dusted off a rare vintage silicon circuit, tuned it up, and added a Variac control so you can set the pedal’s voltage anywhere from 5 to 15V. For that wonderful saggy fuzz effect you get as a 9V battery loses its power, just lower the voltage by turning the Variac knob counterclockwise. Increasing the voltage raises the effect’s headroom, opening up the fuzz for a more transparent sound at 15V.

The Super Badass Variac Fuzz’s simple interface is rounded out with Tone, Output, and Gain controls, and it all comes in a road-ready housing with true bypass switching.

This is an interesting pedal, nothing quite like it in terms of the Variac feature. I’m sure many musicians out there would find a use for such a feature. Perhaps you’re one of them? Check it out today!

The limited edition MXR Custom Shop CSP038 Brown Acid Fuzz guitar effects pedal is based on a classic 1970s UK fuzz circuit, this pedal's simple three-knob interface allows you to plug in and tune out in no time at all

The MXR Brown Acid Fuzz delivers psychedelic silicon saturation to guitar and bass players who like it low, slow, and heavy. Based on a classic 1970s UK fuzz circuit, this pedal’s simple three-knob interface allows you to plug in and tune out in no time at all.

There’s not much to be said about the three-band control layout, consisting of an output, tone and fuzz intensity. Whatever you dial in here, you’re guaranteed unmistakeable vintage-tinged tone. Dial in the Output, Tone, and Fuzz controls to set the mood, and then let the heaviness flow forth as the world around you melts into a fuzzy, synesthetic convergence of colors and sounds.

Load up on the intensity control for thick, gripping fuzz or back off slightly and up the tone for snarling transparency and fast attack. Whether you want to ride droning power chord currents across the universe or summon burly grooves at an ancient altar, this pedal has all you need for your musical invocations.

Remember this is a limited edition offering, meaning there are only limited amounts in production. The MXR Brown Acid Fuzz comes adorned with the arcane renderings of legendary Bay Area artist Alan Forbes. Welcome to the next generation of tiny fuzz that you turn on with your foot… or the Mini Foot Fuzz V2 as we like to call it. Though this little purple guy may have a toy-like appearance, you will quickly realize the sounds that come from this box are no child’s play. From gated, low-gain splat to almost infinite sustaining buzz, the Mini Foot Fuzz V2 covers a lot of ground with very little fuss and a whole lot of attitude.

The controls on the Mini Foot Fuzz V2 are as simple as it gets with Volume and Fuzz knobs as well as a toggle for high or low gain settings. Crank the Volume and leave Fuzz down low to give you lower-gain, vintage-style fuzz. Once you start to crank the Fuzz you will find all the cutting and splatty tones you need for any riff or lead line. In the – mode, the toggle gives you a low-gain mode where you get vintage broken-speaker type sounds. Flip it into the + mode and you get a classic yet modern high-gain buzz to blow the roof off with. The gain toggle is the key to the Mini Foot’s depth. Flip on to the low gain side for a broken speaker vibe. On the high gain you’ll have a modern fuzz worthy of the likes of The Smashing Pumpkins or Muse.

Overall it’s a pretty pedal, a nice vivid colour with a cute design. It packs a punch when you turn the fuzz way up & can achieve that vintage sound with the fuzz turned down. We think it’s a winner and that’s why it made the cut.

Designed by Mike Matthews in 1970, The legendary and distinctive Electro Harmonix Big Muff PI. The most popular (by far) Electro Harmonix pedal, it has that old school rock sound that has survived the ages.

Lifted from the EHX website, they aren’t wrong.

“The NYC original. Hendrix and Santana were among the first to get a piece of the Pi, and for over 40 years the Big Muff Pi has been defining the sound of rock guitar. Revered by contemporary guitarists and rock legends for its rich, creamy, violin-like sustain, from Pink Floyd to The White Stripes, everyone still wants a piece of the Pi!”

A classic pedal for sure. There are smaller versions available these days, in fact we’ve reviewed the nano version but if you want the real deal with all the bell, whistles and fuzz for days. Yo know what to do. Check it out!

Fulltone 70-BC Fuzz Pedal

Fulltone 70-BC Fuzz Pedal

  • ✔ Proprietary PCB Board Mounting Method
  • ✔ Classic Fuzz Tones
  • ✔ Built To Last 16-gauge Steel Enclosure
  • ✔ Reissue Of The Fulltone 70 Fuzz In A Smaller Housing
The Fulltone 70-BC fuzz guitar effects pedal is for the players who are searching for the full-on and fizzy personalities of authentic 1970's fuzz!
  • Mid knob provides extra clarity and cut
  • Ideal for older 4-input Marshall amps
  • Two BC108C transistors, intentionally mismatched for harmonic content
  • Classic Fuzz tones
  • Built to last from top-notch and custom-built components
  • Proprietary PCB board mounting method
  • Aggressive tone

This is not a pedal for the faint of heart. Although there is warmth and clarity in the tone, its at its best when turned up way past the point of any sense. This is a pedal to let loose at full pelt. Shoot first, ask questions later. For fans of the softer, earlier Fuzz Face tone, the 69 mkII from Fulltone is definitely worth checking out. But for those of you who want to get a snarlier version of the classic tone, this is the pedal for you.

What Fulltone had to say about the 70-BC fuzz pedal.

“Ours has two intentionally mismatched (for harmonic content) silicon transistors that snarl and spit… not for the meek! If you put the “Fuzz” on 10 you will rip, and you might get all sorts of oscillation and weirdness… but that’s Rock. Don’t try using it with a wah wah… you can’t, and neither could Jimi, without it screaming and howling. You want polite and quiet? Go elsewhere. You want art in a box? Come on in.”
