Featuring True Bypass switching to maintain the purity of your clean tone, Five Oclock Fuzz delivers a wide array of fuzz tones in a compact package.
Even with the sustain knob rolled all the way back, you get a nasty (in a good way) fuzzy sound. It only gets better from there. The more you roll the sustain up, the more hair this pedal grows. Every step along the way there are settings that are useful and enjoyable. The effect gives a slight compression and heaps of sustain. Its squishy, but not too squishy. My favorite thing about any fuzz pedal is its ability to cover up many of my mistakes. Sloppy playing just adds more nasty (again, in a good way) noise. As long as your fingers find the right notes most of the time, you aren’t just noodling around, you will start channeling your inner Jimi.
This fuzz pedal is unbelievable for the price. It’s barely more expensive than the budget fuzz pedals we’ve featured elsewhere yet it sounds like it’s from a different planet. If you can stretch your budget then get the Outlaw Effects Five O’clock Fuzz. That’s an order partner (laugh at our cowboy joke).

The Animal Pedals bears are Fuzzy things so it’s no surprise they have been working on something very fuzzy sounding down in the bear cave. Having a deep love of the Big Muff Pi pedal, they set their sights on creating a fuzz that captured the essence of the “Civil War” nicknamed, early 1990’s Big Muff era, but with more control over tone and tightness of the sound. Upon finishing their latest creation they all agreed that they all loved this fuzz as much as they’re love of fishing, which as we all know is a bears favourite pastime!
All Animals pedals feature artwork by Jonas Claesson, operate on 9v power, feature true-bypass switching, and are made to exacting standards of performance and durability using only the highest quality parts and materials. As fuzzy as a family of holidaying bears on a fishing trip. And this fuzz is no copycat clone, it’s a sleuth of bears who make their own unique happy fun.
What an adorable pedal this is. Make no mistake though, this pedal means business. It creates a sweet fuzz sound thats dirty as hell. Quality fuzz, versatile pedal, good price. Go get one!

A great third companion to the regular distortion and overdrive pedals found on most boards. Where those two staples cover familiar sonic territory, fuzz pedals tend to reside in a section all their own. From buzzy breakup to an avalanche of chaos, Fuzz pedals create a specific voice for a specific player. The ModTone Fuzz delivers a unique proprietary voiced tone that can add a hint of buzz to full on fuzz to your signal. Pure and toneful anarchy in a blue sparkle box!
It sports a familiar control set of Volume, Tone and indeed Fuzz, but under the hood is a fine-tuned custom circuit that to my ears, straddles the line between classic silicon Muff and Fuzz Face circuits. Unlike a typical Big Muff tone sweep where one has to perform tiny tweaks to get the balance from lows to highs right. The Fuzz’s Tone control keeps just enough chime in the high end throughout the entire sweep of the dial to be usable at all times.
The sound of Modtone’s Fuzz is not unlike that of a Big Muff but uses a proprietary circuit to produce a rich and throaty tone with some superb cleanup available at lower gain settings. Most muff-type pedals stick with the same tone stack that filters out high frequencies when rolled back and low frequencies when turned up.
Low noise, low price and high build quality make The Fuzz a winner if one is after a versatile, usable fuzzy overdrive for not much cash.
Another top quality fuzz pedal for our list. The sounds it produces reminds of a versatile fuzz face. The volume control is quite variable and both the gain and tone knobs allows for a really good tonal range! Really good pedal for an impressively reasonable price.
